During New Year's celebrations on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, USA, Shamsud-din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen and Army vet, drove a rented pickup truck into crowds gathered to celebrate. 14 people were killed at the scene and a further 35 injured. Following the attack, Jabbar left the truck and was subsequently killed during a gunfight with local police.

Christopher Raia, FBI deputy assistant director with the agency's counterterrorism division, said that Jabbar was "100% inspired" by IS. Jabbar had posted videos supporting IS on his social media pages in the past.
The FBI has said he is believed to have acted alone in planning and carrying out the attack.
